Have you got a tween or teen that interested in Space? I do! If you do, you may want to check out some of the following sites:
- Celestia - a free space simulator for kids - we checked this out this morning after reading about it at Parent Wonder. In addition to the free basic functionalities, Celestia has a whole community who have written add-ons for the program. (Photo courtesy of Parent Wonder, too.)
- Nasa Kid’s Club - this site is jam packed with games, activities, stories and fun things for kids to do while learning about space. If you are planning a space-themed birthday party, this site is a MUST visit for some really great ideas.
- Astronomy for Kids - this site is more of an informational site but does have a few games and activities too.
- Brain Pop - BrainPop is a subscription site (you can get a free trial) that has animated, educational movies for kids on a variety of topics. My kids have used this site in the classroom and seem to like it.
- Google Earth Flight Simulator - Did you know there is a secret flight simulator built into Google Earth? How cool is that?? If you click on the planet (in the new Google Earth program) and press CTRL+ALT+A you can cruise around in an F-16 or an SR22. Now that you are ready to try it out, you may need this list of keyboard controls, too.
